PEACE

Peace Begins

with People.

To unfold our humanity is to recognise the dignity of every life – including our own. Peace begins with that recognition. It grows through dialogue, understanding and the courage to see beyond differences. From spaces for quiet reflection to global peace proposals and creative expression, SGI Gulf nurtures a culture where peace is not simply discussed—it is lived.

“Peace is not something you wish for. It’s something you make.”

Dr Daisaku Ikeda

At SGI Gulf, peace is more than the absence of conflict – it is the presence of empathy, dignity and dialogue. Inspired by Dr Daisaku Ikeda’s writings and peace proposals, we strive to weave peace into everyday life through learning, community engagement and creative expression.

‘Poets of Peace’

Award

In 2016, Dubai celebrated the power of poetry to inspire peace, dialogue and solidarity through the International Day for Poets of Peace.

Dr Daisaku Ikeda was among four distinguished poets honoured for their contributions to a culture of peace, alongside Farouq Gouida, Kholoud Al Mulla and K. Satchidanandan.

The award recognised poetry as a universal language—one that can transcend cultures, differences and borders to bring people closer together.

Peace is not a place you reach-it’s the way you walk."

Betty Williams:

From Apathy to Action

Peace begins when people choose to act. In December 2015, Nobel Peace Laureate Betty Williams spoke at an SGI Gulf lecture in Dubai, drawing on her lifelong work for peace and children’s rights. She reminded her audience that peace cannot be left to governments alone. It must be built from below – by ordinary people choosing to care, to speak up and to act. She urged people to overcome apathy and build peace from the ground up—through courage, compassion and action. Apathy is the greatest withholder of peace. Her message continues to resonate: peace is not something we wait for. It is something we each have the power to begin.
