SEEDS OF CHANGE

When an exhibition became

a conversation about our future.

In 2005, Soka Gakkai Gulf brought the acclaimed Seeds of Change exhibition to the UAE — inviting people to look at the environmental challenges facing our world, and more importantly, to consider what each of us could do to change them.

Seeds of Change was not just about recognising problems.

It was about believing that we can be part of the solution.

Created by Soka Gakkai International and the Earth Charter Initiative, the exhibition first debuted at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, where it the environmental and human challenges shaping our planet.

16 panels, real-life stories and the documentary Quiet Revolution.

Message: If human choices have shaped the problems we face, human choices can also shape what happens next.

FROM JOHANNESBURG TO THE UAE

A Global Exhibition.

A Local Conversation.

Seeds of Change began as an international initiative of Soka Gakkai International and the Earth Charter Initiative. In 2005, Soka Gakkai Gulf brought it to the UAE — and translated its panels into Arabic, enabling its message of sustainability, peace, justice and respect for life to connect meaningfully with local audiences.

THE IDEA

Three Questions.

One Powerful Proposition.

The exhibition was guided by the theme HEART – a simple framework through which children and visitors could explore the values behind the artworks.

1

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Young minds encounter a changing world – and begin to ask important questions.

2

WHY MUST THINGS CHANGE?

Real stories reveal the human and environmental challenges shaping our planet.

3

WHAT CAN EACH OF US DO?

Ideas and actions show that positive change begins with each of us.

What is happening to our world?

Why must things change?

What can each of us do about it?

These three questions lay at the heart of Seeds of Change.

THE FRAMEWORK

Sustainability Begins Within

Awareness Is The Beginning.

At the heart of the exhibition was the EARTH framework:

EDUCATE

Educate & Empower

APPRECIATE

Appreciate & Apply

REALIZE

Realize & Reflect

TRY

Try & Trust

HOPE

Hope & Happiness

It encouraged visitors not simply to understand environmental issues, but to examine their own choices and discover their personal ability to contribute.

Then bring in the question that the exhibition ultimately left with its audiences:

What kind of future do I want to help create?

YOUNG PEOPLE

From Seeing To Thinking To Doing

When a Global Issue Became Personal

At the heart of Seeds of Change was an invitation to look beyond the scale of global environmental challenges and ask:

What can I do?

For young people, that question became an opportunity to move from awareness to participation. Students launched environmental projects and eco-clubs, while teachers brought sustainability conversations into classrooms.

SEE

Children encountering the exhibition.

THINK

Children reading, discussing and taking notes.

ACT

The exhibition didn’t just tell young people about change.

It invited them to imagine their part in it.

THE REACH — IT DIDN’T STAY IN ONE PLACE

From Exhibition Hall To Classroom,

Workplace And Community

Seeds of Change travelled across the UAE through schools, universities, corporate headquarters and public spaces. Its journey included

Dubai Women’s College

Zayed University

Knowledge Village

Emirates Group

ENOC

and other community venues – ultimately reaching tens of thousands of students, educators, professionals and families.

THE IMPACT

One Exhibition.

Many Ripple Effects.

What happens when an idea reaches different people in different places?

Seeds of Change created multiple points of engagement — extending beyond environmental awareness into education, youth action, responsible leadership and community reflection.

YOUNG PEOPLE

Awareness became action.

Students launched environmental projects and eco-clubs, taking the conversation beyond the exhibition.

EDUCATION

Sustainability entered the classroom.

Teachers brought environmental conversations into learning.

BUSINESS

Responsibility became a leadership question.

Corporate audiences reflected on responsible leadership and their environmental footprints.

COMMUNITY

A global issue became personal.

People were encouraged to consider the kind of future they wanted to help create.

LEGACY

The Ripple Continues a Seed Is Small. Its Possibility Is Not.

Seeds of Change showed what can happen when an idea travels – from an international exhibition to classrooms, workplaces and communities; from awareness to reflection, and from reflection to action. For Soka Gakkai Gulf, it remains an important expression of the belief that lasting change begins with the awakening of individual potential.

ONE EARTH.

ONE HUMANITY.

COUNTLESS SEEDS OF CHANGE.
